So TC sir finally decided to take a class. Though I have not opted for the subject I had heard that TC sir's last (and first) class is legendary. So there I was, first time in my life at MDI witnessing a classroom full. There were no empty chairs... not even in the front rows!
- Do not stop reading. The globe is a very dynamic place. What you learn today will be outdated tomorrow. If you stop reading, the world will leave you behind.
- Have someone as an inspiration. You'll not grow without inspiration. And your father cannot be your ideal. If everyone wants to become like his father, all progress will stop and society will stagnate.
- Dream. It gives a meaning and purpose to life. Think positive. The power of positive thinking is often neglected.
- Never think you're stuck in an industry. You have the power to move to any field you want.
- Remember you are managers and not workers. Its work that you are managing and it can be any kind of work. You can hire people who know the work, you just have to manage them. You will not get manager's work immediately but eventually you will. Try and become a manager as soon as possible. Remember, the word manager contains 'man' which means it is people you will have to deal with in your professions.
- In 5 years' time, you will be earning more and will have more knowledge than any of the professors here because they will keep on teaching the same thing but you will evolve with the industry.
- If you have any kind of problem, call TC sir at least once. But do not stay in touch if you don't have any problem. He will try to help whether you have academic problems, marriage problems, you banged your car, committed a murder or are caught in a cross fire in the Czech republic. Even if he may not be able to solve your problem, you will not lose anything by telling him. But for God's sake do not stay in touch with him if you don't have any problems. Do not drop in to tell that you're happy with your job, got married and have two kids. It is expected from you. Moreover, he would not know how to react to social pleasantries so get in touch only when you have a problem.
So that's it folks. Let me know if I missed something.
Cheers
Aalok

The Tax part he taught basically was how tax policies depend on the demographics of a country.
Also on how the policies evolve over time in an economy and what future steps can/will be taken in India.
TC Sir is undoubtedly one of the most brilliant person you can come across.
The best thing is he can talk about any thing on earth, from fin to mark to murders and money laundering.
I can never for get this statement from my last class
"In case you commit a murder, first of all call me. the 1st thing i'll ask is that is he alive. If he is, good, else i'll say dont worry. We'll find out a way"
Thanx Double...
Too good a read it was:)
Some points were new, some old...
Especially that word he used to describe ppl who follow their parents as their ideals ;)
@Dan: I of course remember that, but that was besides the point of this post. Or, to put it in MBA terms, there was a strategic mismatch between the intricate details of the taxation policy and the mission of this. Hence, the author was obliged to omit those details on the account of preserving synergies. :D
@Mundra sir: That's the best thing about him. He said even if he's not able to solve your problem, he will at least try his best to solve it. In any case you won't lose anything by sharing your problems with him.
@Kartik sir: Thanks. I'm glad you liked it.
